The Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), in collaboration with the Caribbean Centre for Development Administration (CARICAD), has embarked on an initiative designed to accelerate progress towards 21st Century Government in order to transform the public service in the Caribbean. Approved at the CTU’s 20th General Conference of Ministers meeting in November 2017, this initiative is a key element of the Vision for the CARICOM Single ICT Space, with its common frameworks for enabling the delivery of e-government services. The CARICOM Heads of Government meeting in Guyana in February 2017 had approved the Vision and Roadmap for the Space.
A 21st Century Government is one that is citizen-centric and seamless. The evolution of information and communication technologies (ICT) presents the opportunity to create a seamless and comprehensive information profile of each citizen pertaining to their interactions with the Government. The CTU believes that transforming regional governments to 21st Century Governments is critical to the future well-being and sustainable social and economic development of each of our Member States. However, the success of this initiative requires commitment from the highest levels of each Member State government.
